In 2022, more than 1.9 million Americans were expected to be diagnosed
with cancer – and early detection remains our best bet for treatment.5
Anyone can get skin cancer − it’s by far the most common type of cancer.5 Although the American Cancer Society does not have screening guidelines for skin cancer, everyone should know their own skin.18 Checking skin regularly may help spot new growths or abnormal areas before they have a chance to turn into skin cancer.5
Among Non-Hispanic whites, 1 in 27 men and 1 in 40 women will get melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, in their lifetime.5
When detected early, the 5-year survival rate for melanoma is is 99% in the local stage.5

The best way to spot problems that might be skin cancer is to be aware of any areas that are new or changing in size, shape or color.5
Anyone with new or changing areas, growths, itching, or bleeding on the skin should be examined by a doctor as soon as possible.1
