REGULAR SCREENING MAY

DETECT CANCER EARLY

In 2022, more than 1.9 million Americans were expected to be diagnosed
with cancer – and early detection remains our best bet for treatment.5

BREAST CANCER

Breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer among women in the United States.5 Getting screened regularly is the most reliable way to find it when it's smaller and might be easier to treat.5 In fact, breast cancer death rates have been declining since 1989 due in part to screening with mammograms as well as increased breast cancer awareness and improved treatment.5

1in 8

About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime.5

99%

The 5-year survival rate is 99% when breast cancer is diagnosed at the local stage.10

Breast cancer is sometimes found after symptoms appear, but many women with breast cancer have no symptoms. This is why regular breast cancer screening is so important.5

Breast cancer screening

Women at high risk are those with a personal history or strong family history of breast cancer, a genetic mutation known to increase risk and those had high-dose radiation therapy to the chest before age 30.5

Women at average risk should have the option to start screening at age 40 with a mammogram every year. Women ages 45 to 54 should get a mammogram every year. At age 55 and older, women can switch to a mammogram every 2 years or continue annual screening. Screening should continue for as long as a woman is in good health and expected to live at least 10 more years.5
